23 וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה הֲיַד יְהוָה תִּקְצָר עַתָּה תִרְאֶה הֲיִקְרְךָ דְבָרִי אִם־לֹא׃
24 וַיֵּצֵא מֹשֶׁה וַיְדַבֵּר אֶל־הָעָם אֵת דִּבְרֵי יְהוָה וַיֶּאֱסֹף שִׁבְעִים אִישׁ מִזִּקְנֵי הָעָם וַיַּעֲמֵד אֹתָם סְבִיבֹת הָאֹהֶל׃
25 וַיֵּרֶד יְהוָה בֶּעָנָן וַיְדַבֵּר אֵלָיו וַיָּאצֶל מִן־הָרוּחַ אֲשֶׁר עָלָיו וַיִּתֵּן עַל־שִׁבְעִים אִישׁ הַזְּקֵנִים וַיְהִי כְּנוֹחַ עֲלֵיהֶם הָרוּחַ וַיִּתְנַבְּאוּ וְלֹא יָסָפוּ׃
26 וַיִּשָּׁאֲרוּ שְׁנֵי־אֲנָשִׁים בַּמַּחֲנֶה שֵׁם הָאֶחָד אֶלְדָּד וְשֵׁם הַשֵּׁנִי מֵידָד וַתָּנַח עֲלֵיהֶם הָרוּחַ וְהֵמָּה בַּכְּתֻבִים וְלֹא יָצְאוּ הָאֹהֱלָה וַיִּתְנַבְּאוּ בַּמַּחֲנֶה׃
27 וַיָּרָץ הַנַּעַר וַיַּגֵּד לְמֹשֶׁה וַיֹּאמַר אֶלְדָּד וּמֵידָד מִתְנַבְּאִים בַּמַּחֲנֶה׃
28 וַיַּעַן יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן־נוּן מְשָׁרֵת מֹשֶׁה מִבְּחֻרָיו וַיֹּאמַר אֲדֹנִי מֹשֶׁה כְּלָאֵם׃
29 וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ מֹשֶׁה הַמְקַנֵּא אַתָּה לִי וּמִי יִתֵּן כָּל־עַם יְהוָה נְבִיאִים כִּי־יִתֵּן יְהוָה אֶת־רוּחוֹ עֲלֵיהֶם׃
30 וַיֵּאָסֵף מֹשֶׁה אֶל־הַמַּחֲנֶה הוּא וְזִקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃



4 The rabble who had joined the people were feeling the pangs of hunger, and the Israelites began to weep again. 'Who will give us meat to eat?' they said. 5 'Think of the fish we used to eat free in Egypt, the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic! 6 But now we are withering away; there is nothing wherever we look except this manna!'

10 Moses heard the people weeping, each family at the door of its tent. Yahweh's anger was greatly aroused; Moses too found it disgraceful, 11 and he said to Yahweh: 'Why do you treat your servant so badly? In what respect have I failed to win your favour, for you to lay the burden of all these people on me? 12 Was it I who conceived all these people, was I their father, for you to say to me, Carry them in your arms, like a foster-father carrying an unweaned child, to the country which I swore to give their fathers"? 13 Where am I to find meat to give all these people, pestering me with their tears and saying, "Give us meat to eat"? 14 I cannot carry all these people on my own; the weight is too much for me. 15 If this is how you mean to treat me, please kill me outright! If only I could win your favour and be spared the sight of my misery!

16 Yahweh said to Moses, Collect me seventy of the elders of Israel, men you know to be the people's elders and scribes. Bring them to the Tent of Meeting, and let them stand beside you there. 17 I shall come down and talk to you there and shall take some of the spirit which is on you and put it on them. Then they will bear the burden of the people with you, and you will no longer have to bear it on your own.

18 And say to the people, "Purify yourselves for tomorrow and you will have meat to eat, since you have wept in Yahweh's hearing, saying: Who will give us meat to eat? How happy we were in Egypt! Very well, Yahweh will give you meat to eat. 19 You will eat it not for one day, or two, or five, or ten or twenty, 20 but for a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and sickens you, since you have rejected Yahweh who is among you, and have wept before him saying: Why did we ever leave Egypt?"

21 Moses said, The people round me number six hundred thousand foot soldiers, and you say, "I shall give them meat to eat for a whole month"! 22 If all the flocks and herds were slaughtered, would that be enough for them? If all the fish in the seas were collected, would that be enough for them?' 23 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Is the arm of Yahweh so short? You shall see whether the promise I have made to you comes true or not.'

24 Moses went out and told the people what Yahweh had said. Then he collected seventy of the people's elders and stationed them round the Tent. 25 Yahweh descended in the cloud. He spoke to him and took some of the spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. When the spirit came on them they prophesied—but only once.

26 Two men had stayed back in the camp; one was called Eldad and the other Medad. The spirit came down on them; though they had not gone to the Tent, their names were enrolled among the rest. These began to prophesy in the camp. 27 A young man ran to tell Moses this. 'Look,' he said, 'Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.' 28 Joshua son of Nun, who had served Moses since he was a boy, spoke up and said, 'My lord Moses, stop them!' 29 Moses replied, 'Are you jealous on my account? If only all Yahweh's people were prophets, and Yahweh had given them his spirit!' 30 Moses then went back to the camp with the elders of Israel.

Odd Years: Hebrews 10:19-25

ἔχοντες οὖν, ἀδελφοί, παρρησίαν εἰς τὴν εἴσοδον τῶν ἁγίων ἐν τῷ αἵματι Ἰησοῦ,
ἣν ἐνεκαίνισεν ἡμῖν ὁδὸν πρόσφατον καὶ ζῶσαν διὰ τοῦ καταπετάσματος,
τοῦτ' ἔστιν τῆς σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ,
καὶ ἱερέα μέγαν ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον τοῦ θεοῦ,
      προσερχώμεθα μετὰ ἀληθινῆς καρδίας ἐν πληροφορίᾳ πίστεως,
      ῥεραντισμένοι τὰς καρδίας ἀπὸ συνειδήσεως πονηρᾶς
      καὶ λελουσμένοι τὸ σῶμα ὕδατι καθαρῷ:
      κατέχωμεν τὴν ὁμολογίαν τῆς ἐλπίδος ἀκλινῆ,
      πιστὸς γὰρ ὁ ἐπαγγειλάμενος:
καὶ κατανοῶμεν ἀλλήλους εἰς παροξυσμὸν ἀγάπης καὶ καλῶν ἔργων,
μὴ ἐγκαταλείποντες τὴν ἐπισυναγωγὴν ἑαυτῶν, καθὼς ἔθος τισίν,
ἀλλὰ παρακαλοῦντες,
καὶ τοσούτῳ μᾶλλον ὅσῳ βλέπετε ἐγγίζουσαν τὴν ἡμέραν.

19 We have then, brothers, complete confidence through the blood of Jesus in entering the sanctuary, 20 by a new way which he has opened for us, a living opening through the curtain, that is to say, his flesh. 21 And we have the high priest over all the sanctuary of God. 22 So as we go in, let us be sincere in heart and filled with faith, our hearts sprinkled and free from any trace of bad conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us keep firm in the hope we profess, because the one who made the promise is trustworthy. 24 Let us be concerned for each other, to stir a response in love and good works. 25 Do not absent yourself from your own assemblies, as some do, but encourage each other; the more so as you see the Day drawing near.

Sacra vero Scriptura, cui saeculorum consentit experientia, humanam familiam edocet progressum humanum, qui magnum hominis bonum est, magnam tamen tentationem secumferre: ordine enim valorum turbato et malo cum bono permixto, singuli homines ac coetus solummodo quae propria sunt considerant, non vero aliorum. Sacred Scripture teaches the human family what the experience of the ages confirms: that while human progress is a great advantage to man, it brings with it a strong temptation. For when the order of values is jumbled and bad is mixed with the good, individuals and groups pay heed solely to their own interests, and not to those of others.
Quo fit ut mundus non iam spatium verae fraternitatis exsistat, dum aucta humanitatis potentia iam ipsum genus humanum destruere minatur... Thus it happens that the world ceases to be a place of true brotherhood. In our own day, the magnified power of humanity threatens to destroy the race itself...
Si quis ergo quaerit, qua ratione miseria illa superari possit, christiani profitentur, omnes hominis navitates, quae per superbiam et inordinatum sui ipsius amorem cotidie in discrimine versantur, Christi cruce et resurrectione purificandas et ad perfectionem deducendas esse. Hence if anyone wants to know how this unhappy situation can be overcome, Christians will tell him that all human activity, constantly imperiled by man's pride and deranged self-love, must be purified and perfected by the power of Christ's cross and resurrection.
A Christo enim redemptus et in Spiritu Sancto nova creatura effectus, homo ipsas res a Deo creatas amare potest et debet. A Deo enim illas accipit et quasi de manu Dei fluentes respicit et reveretur. For redeemed by Christ and made a new creature in the Holy Spirit, man is able to love the things themselves created by God, and ought to do so. He can receive them from God and respect and reverence them as flowing constantly from the hand of God.
Pro illis Benefactori gratias agens et in paupertate et libertate spiritus creaturis utens ac fruens, in veram mundi possessionem introducitur, tamquam nihil habens et omnia possidens. Omnia enim vestra sunt: vos autem Christi, Christus autem Dei. Grateful to his Benefactor for these creatures, using and enjoying them in detachment and liberty of spirit, man is led forward into a true possession of them, as having nothing, yet possessing all things. "All are yours, and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's" (1 Cor. 3:22-23).
Verbum enim Dei, per quod omnia facta sunt, Ipsum caro factum et in hominum terra habitans, perfectus homo in historiam mundi intravit, eam in Se assumens et recapitulans. Ipse nobis revelat, quoniam Deus caritas est, simulque nos docet legem fundamentalem perfectionis humanae, ac proinde transformationis mundi, novum dilectionis esse mandatum. 38. For God's Word, through Whom all things were made, was Himself made flesh and dwelt on the earth of men. Thus He entered the world's history as a perfect man, taking that history up into Himself and summarizing it.(11) He Himself revealed to us that "God is love" (1 John 4:8) and at the same time taught us that the new command of love was the basic law of human perfection and hence of to worlds transformation.
Eos igitur, qui divinae credunt caritati, certos facit, viam dilectionis omnibus hominibus aperiri et conamen fraternitatem universalem instaurandi non esse inane. Simul monet, hanc caritatem non in solis magnis rebus sectandam esse, sed et imprimis in ordinariis vitae adiunctis. To those, therefore, who believe in divine love, He gives assurance that the way of love lies open to men and that the effort to establish a universal brotherhood is not a hopeless one. He cautions them at the same time that this charity is not something to be reserved for important matters, but must be pursued chiefly in the ordinary circumstances of life.
Pro nobis omnibus peccatoribus mortem sustinens, suo exemplo nos docet crucem etiam baiulandam esse, quam caro et mundus pacem et iustitiam sectantium humeris imponunt. Undergoing death itself for all of us sinners, He taught us by example that we too must shoulder that cross which the world and the flesh inflict upon those who search after peace and justice.
Sua resurrectione Dominus constitutus, Christus, cui omnis potestas in caelo et in terra data est, per virtutem Spiritus Sui in cordibus hominum iam operatur, non solum venturi saeculi desiderium suscitans, sed eo ipso illa etiam generosa vota animans, purificans et roborans, quibus familia humana suam ipsius vitam humaniorem reddere et totam terram huic fini subiicere satagit. Appointed Lord by His resurrection and given plenary power in heaven and on earth, Christ is now at work in the hearts of men through the energy of His Holy Spirit, arousing not only a desire for the age to come, but by that very fact animating, purifying and strengthening those noble longings too by which the human family makes its life more human and strives to render the whole earth submissive to this goal.
Diversa autem sunt Spiritus dona: dum alios vocat ut caelestis habitationis desiderio manifestum testimonium reddant illudque in humana familia vividum conservent, alios vocat ut terreno hominum servitio se dedicent, hoc suo ministerio materiam regni caelestis parantes. Now, the gifts of the Spirit are diverse: while He calls some to give clear witness to the desire for a heavenly home and to keep that desire green among the human family, He summons others to dedicate themselves to the earthly service of men and to make ready the material of the celestial realm by this ministry of theirs.
Omnes tamen liberat ut, proprio amore abnegato omnibusque terrenis viribus in vitam humanam assumptis, ad futura se extendant, quando humanitas ipsa fiet oblatio accepta Deo. Yet He frees all of them so that by putting aside love of self and bringing all earthly resources into the service of human life they can devote themselves to that future when humanity itself will become an offering accepted by God.

Verus itaque venerator Dominicae passionis sic crucifixum Jesum oculis cordis aspiciat, ut illius carnem suam esse cognoscat.

Contremiscat in Redemptoris sui supplicio terrena substantia, rumpantur infidelium mentium petrae, et qui mortalitatis gravabantur sepulcris, discussa obstaculorum mole prosiliant. Appareant nunc quoque in civitate sancta, id est in Ecclesia Dei, futurae resurrectionis indicia, et quod gerendum est in corporibus, fiat in cordibus.

Nulli infirmorum crucis est negata victoria; nec quisquam est cui non Christi auxilietur oratio. Quae si multis in ipsum saevientibus profuit, quanto magis eos qui ad ipsum convertuntur adjuvat?

Sublata est ignorantia, temperata est difficultas, et igneam illam qua vitae regio erat inclusa, romphaeam sacer Christi sanguis exstinxit. Verae luci, antiquae noctis cessit obscuritas.

Invitatur ad paradisi divitias populus Christianus, et cunctis regeneratis ad amissam patriam patefactus est reditus, si nemo sibi illam viam facit claudi, quae fidei latronis potuit aperiri

Nec ita nos nunc anxie, nunc superbe praesentis vitae occupent actiones, ut non toto cordis affectu conformari Redemptori nostro per illius exempla nitamur. Nihil enim non ad nostram salutem aut egit aut pertulit, ut virtus quae inerat capiti inesset etiam et corpori.

Nam primum ipsa illa substantiae nostrae in Deitate susceptio, qua Verbum caro factum est, et habitavit in nobis, quem hominum misericordiae suae, nisi infidelem, reliquit exsortem? Et cui non communis natura cum Christo est, si assumentem recepit, et eo spiritu est regeneratus quo ille progenitus? Deinde quis in illo suas non agnoscat infirmitates? Quis perceptionem cibi, requietionem somni, sollicitudinem moestitudinis, lacrymas pietatis, non videat formae fuisse servilis?

Quae quoniam ab antiquis sananda vulneribus, et a colluvione erat purganda peccati, ita Unigenitus Dei, etiam hominis factus est filius, ut et omni humanitatis veritate, et Divinitatis plenitudine non careret.

Sicut itaque nostrum est quod cum unione Deitatis peperit materna virginitas, ita nostrum est quod Judaica crucifixit impietas. Nostrum est quod exanime in sepulcro jacuit, et quod die tertia resurrexit, quodque super omnes altitudines coelorum ad dexteram paternae majestatis ascendit: ut si per viam mandatorum ejus incedimus, et si quae in humilitate corporea nostrae impendit saluti non erubescimus confiteri, nos quoque in gloriae ejus consortium provehamur: quoniam manifeste quod denuntiavit implebitur: Omnis qui confitebitur me coram hominibus, et ego confitebor eum coram Patre meo, qui in coelis est
